Jade austin dim sum1/20/2024 ![]() Oh and if you go for a family dinner and there are TV's playing on all the walls. To grow in Westlake it probably need a softer waitpersons, a beer on tap, and a more moderate wine price on the wine list for stock in trade wines. This restaurant has huge potential based on food, quality and pricing. But the attitude to our bill analysis prior to that was not appropriate. We reported that and got it fixed so we paid the full and correct amount. We as a family always check our check, and a bottle of wine we had was missing from our bill. For the record, waitperson showed displeasure as we looked at the check. A quiet word with the host would have been much more appropriate. Seemed to get lectured and yelled at as a table. Finally, our waitperson ''barked'' at the table. We were a large group, previous Asian residents. So if you want a wine bottle this is an expensive place. There are cheaper wines, but not Cabs /Chards. Wine selection needs a few lower cost chards and Cabs.Lowest prices are well over $50. Long term blossoming of this restaurant would look much better with this. The beer selection is good with Asian beers, but is cries out for an Asian beer on tap. With this positive comment, some improvement to help survival and prosperity. The whole menu was well received by our large family gathering. Those that enjoy real Chinese food will enjoy this restaurant, Chinese, not your typical American Chinese food, Food and pricing unbeatable. So we will return. Duck is top class on a global experience. Give 3 stars for the food.First of all, excellent menu. As for the food, dim sum were good, dinner dishes were mediocre, jalapeño chicken was flavorless. We could get Americanized Asian food anywhere w/o being treated like this. We drove across town here for the dim sum at dinner time, but it’s not really worth it at all. I had to walk to the register and ask for to-go containers and our check… sigh! I’m really disappointed of the service. No acknowledgment when I politely ask for refills on water, and no surprise, never came with check at the end. Never came back to ask how were the food nor needing anything else. We needed couple more minutes to look at the menu, but she never came back for about 10+ minutes till finally I called her attention while she passing by our table several times without looking at us. First time I thought she was having a bad day, but the 2nd time she’s the same way… seemed angry. Literally no smile at all on her face, no greeting not attentive…. Came here 3 times since last June (2020), twice during brunch Dim sum and once for dinner, two out of three were seated at the table with this very unhappy waitress. Only if I could give ZERO star for the service – No service. Unfortunately, they don’t have a very large selection of dim sum. I have also never heard of anyone chasing anyone down let alone accusing them of not tipping especially if they were the ones that made the mistake. The amount people tip should depend on the level of service they feel they received and should be able to be adjusted not simply included in the total bill. I would like to say that we have no problem with tipping and usually tip very well but feel that some restaurants are abusing this system. ![]() My husband was polite the whole time she “double checked” our receipt and she apologized when she saw everything was correctly charged and went back inside. We think one of the employees saw nothing written on the “tip” section of the credit card receipt and thought we did not tip! We aren’t sure why the manager would even question it as she was the one who gave us the check and stated that the tip was already included in the total. As he is waiting, the manager had the audacity to run outside and say that they “forgot” to charge something on our bill (we assume this being the tip). He then bought my son outside to wait for the rest of us to wash our hands. When it came time to sign the credit card receipt, he drew a line in the tip row (because it had already been included) and just wrote the total at the bottom and then signed his name and gave it back to the waitress. My husband politely nodded his head and paid. The manager/owner explained to us before we gave her our credit card that the 20% tip was already included in the price of the check. Everything was going smoothly until it came time to pay the bill. We had Har gow, sui mai, shrimp and leek pan fried dumplings, steamed pork hum bao, salt and pepper shrimp, and sesame balls for dessert. Our family of 5 decided to try out the dim sum here as we were missing the NY/Houston dim sum scene and Austin no longer had any good dim sum places. While the dim sum menu is less expansive than New Fortune, it will more than cover your Jones for those tasty bites of fabulous you've been craving since New Fortune closed. ![]()
